  3. Thanks for the new video Glenn, preat content as usual. It's been a while since I downloaded your patches, so I went through the process again.

I'm especially interested in the new patches for running direct to an amp. I assume you designed these for your Traynor. Would you have any suggestions for using them with a Fender Blues Deluxe RI? I run direct at church and am already using some of your direct patches, but I occasionally I play out doing classic rock, country and blues using the Blues Deluxe. I'm looking forward to trying these new patches.

    God bless!

  4. Hey Ronny, hope you had a great Christmas and I hope you have a great 2010 ahead. Very simple answer to your question. Use my AMP ONLY patches with your amp and mic the speaker and use my DIRECT only patches for direct to PA/DAW/MIXER. That's it! Don't even waste your time trying to use the direct patches with your amp and the amp patches sound terrible direct. They are both totally different worlds you know!!

    Cheers

  5. Thanks Glenn, best wishes to you as well.

As I mentioned it has been a while since I originally downloaded your patches. It sounds as though you've done wome tweaking on your direct patches. I'm loving the sound of your Strat Clean. Country Crunch and Country Lead. All the patches sound great but I'm stuck on these for the moment.

I still haven't hooked my amp to try the amp only patches, hopefully tomorrow. I did understand the concept. I was just wondering if you had any particular advice that might be useful for my amp (Blues Deluxe). Do you change the output on the GT10 from Lines/Phones to one of the combo selections when using your amp? Any amp eq tips, etc?

I'm really looking forward to hearing some of the direct patches on the sound system tomorrow morning and eventually working them in!

    Peace
    Ronny S.

  6. Hey Ronny, I do change the output setting. For my direct patches the GT-10 output is set to Line/Phones. For my Amp only patches the GT-10 output is set to Stack Return.

    Cheers,

    Glenn

  8. Glenn,

For your amp only patches, are you using any external pedals such as the Satchurator in the S/R loop?

In your videos I've seen you use a Bad Monkey also. Do you have any other favorite external pedals like that?

    Thanks,
    Ronny

    ReplyDelete
  9. Hey Ronny, I have changed the Bad Monkey out with an Ibanez TS 808 circa 1980. The Bad Monkey was a bit noisy. I also have that Boss EQ7 and it works as a clean boost and it adds just a little bite!! Not using the Satchurator anymore. My amp has 2 channels so it has it's own foot switch and it took the spot where the Satchurator pedal went. Sorry Joe!!! LOL It's a great pedal and would be my first choice in an amp and pedals only set-up.

    Cheers,

    Glenn

    ReplyDelete
  10. I use a BB Preamp and Blues Driver, favoring the BB Preamp. I was just curious about some other pedals with the GT10. I use the BB on clean patches for bite and boost. Other than than I've been staying with the GT10 only.

Are you not using the Traynor K4? That is a sweet amp, but I like the new one too. I run direct most of the time or use a powered monitor. For gigs outside church I use a Blues Deluxe and I'm looking forward to trying some of these new patches this weekend!

    Thanks,
    Ronny

    ReplyDelete
  11. Hey those BB's are nice!! No not using the K-4 right now. I have switched to a tube amp and I am liking the sound.

  12. Hi Glenn,
Firstly thanks for taking the immense amount of time youve obviously spent doing this to share it with us all.
I would like to know if you feel the Boss GT10 allows your individual instruments to colour your tone or not or do they sound the same. And also I am considering getting one to use just at home, would you advise using a tube amp or just connecting it to a PA type speaker? Your thoughts would be much appreciated.
Thanks again and greetings from the UK Chris.

    ReplyDelete
  13. Hey Chris, guitars make a big difference. Most of the high end ones I have sound pretty much the same but the big difference is between HB and SC type pick-ups. There you have to pretty musch use the guitar you are going to be playing to craft your tones.

For home or live use the X3-Live does really well running direct to PA.

    Cheers,

    Glenn

    ReplyDelete
  14. Thanks for getting back Glenn. I was just thinking that I wouldnt get the benefit of having my nice guitars if the sound was going to be too "generic" for want of a better word. You think the pod x3-live might suit me better? I would probably just buy a small PA style speaker to run it through at home.
    Thanks again Chris

  15. Hi Glen,

I'm using the GT10 as well. Izit to much to ask for you to came out with a post to explain all the pre-amps available in GT-10, what is the "actual" amps it's simulating, their characteristic, n etc. I noe Line 6 XT/X3 live manual is very illustrative in the amps that it's simulating.

Newbies like myself is like fishing in the dark, don't hav any idea what are the pre-amps is about :(

    Hope you can enlighten us.

    Cheers
    Bryan

    ReplyDelete
  16. Bryan, this information is explained on page 98 of the GT-10 manual. It tells you there what amps the GT-10 is modeling.

  17. Hi Gleen,

    You tone sounded awesome!
Just a quick question, i have tis prob, if i record directly using GT10 -> PC via usb, the results is very encouraging, but if I record GT10(L/R)-> AI (Lexicon I-ONIX U22) -> PC,
Some how, the outcome it's rather average. I'm using a pair of Alesis 620. Anything i missed out?

    ReplyDelete
  18. Yes, if you record L/R into Lexicon you must set the output mode of GT-10 to Line/Phones.

    ReplyDelete
  19. Yes Glenn, my Output Mode is always set to Line/Phones in GT-10. Any other reason for this?

    Chris

  21. Hi really great video, thanks=) but when I download the boss gt-10 librarian the window never shows up, so i can't reach the bank, do you have any clue what it is?

    ReplyDelete
  22. Yea but when i have download the librarian nothing more happends

    ReplyDelete
  23. Carl, you downloaded the librarian but did you unzip it and install like I show in my video??

    ReplyDelete
  24. Hi Glen I am having difficulty downloading your bundle I have downloaded the driver and librarian without a problem when I download your bundle the Winrar appliacation is downloaded to Realplayer! so I cant extract to the GT10 can you help please
or if your file can be sent to my email account that would be appreciated

    ReplyDelete
  25. Tom all you have to do is right click on my bundle and hit "extract here".

    ReplyDelete
  26. what happens when you click "extract here" on the .zip file??

    ReplyDelete
  27. Hi Glenn

Many thanks for your awesome patches, they sound significantly better than the pre-programmed patches!!

A question about going straight to the PA...do your patches for line out need just a standard DI box or is something like a Behringer Ultra G100 DI with an amp simulator option a better choice sound-wise?

    Thanks, Donald

    ReplyDelete
  28. Hey Donald, yes i used standard DI's when going direct to PA but the Ultra G's are good too.

    ReplyDelete
  29. Hey Andy, I set the Global EQ flat except for the bass. I roll the low bass frequency down a bit cos' the amp sounds a little boomy.

    Cheers,

    Glenn

  30. Dude, I'm having trouble with a boss gt-10. I am trying to set it up using dual pre-amp channels A and B, and have a different set of effects on channel a from channel B, eg channel A on pre-amp enables chorus, and when kick in channel B chorus off, delay on. I figured one does this in the effects chain set up, and move the chorus up onto the channel A branch, and move the delay onto the channel B branch. Trouble is when you save then play channel A then select B both effects are always on rather than switching.

    ReplyDelete
  31. Yes that should work. Not sure why it's not. Try changing the position of the effects in the chain until it goes off

    ReplyDelete
  32. I tried that, but no where I put the effects on the channel bus, all effects are on all the time. Faulty unit? Everything else works ok.....
    Thanks for your time...
I tried some of the in-built presets, to see if any of these have dual channel switching with different effects on each channel, but they all work the same - regardless of the channel switch position all the effects in the patch stay on for both channels. Pants man!

  33. Hey there Glenn, I am having one hell of a time with the patch download thing. In your video you say that after installing the librarian for my vista system, to then select it and prepare to load the patch bundle:Thats when the trouble starts. On the video you pull the librarian off the desk top. After installing everything to the GT-10 folder what do I click on to get that library page? I only get a pop up that says windows media does not support the file.I am the keenest on download procedures but this is quite frustrating as I really like the sound of the patches that I have watched you program on You tube. I Think I just need to watch the whole download and install to see what I could be doing wrong. Is there any help for me? LOL.

    ReplyDelete
  34. Hmm, not sure how vista work's but after you install Librarian and you click the Librarian.exe file, Librarian should open. I don't think an .exe file would be associated with Windows Media. Yeah watch the video very closely. You may have missed something.

  35. 10-4 Glenn. I will give her another shot. I know you are busy with recording and all so thank you for the time you squeeze in. Email is ventured1964@yahoo.com. Thanks. Doug.

    ReplyDelete
  36. Okay,I am getting some where here. What I was finding was after unzipping and downloading librarian was a file folder named (script). I clicked on that and it opened up and a file says (initial data). I right clicked on that and opened it and in that are two windows. One says (Main)which is user patches 1-50and the other is a window that says initial data. I will let you know how this plays out as it may help some one else in this battle of man versus machine.Bye the way I really enjoyed the video Trees by Rush. Nice work.

    ReplyDelete
  37. Well, Got the library up and can sample your patches but They don't seem to be saving in the GT-10.I have the midi set to advanced.I hit :write, then it says are you sure you want to over write the temporary area of the GT-10? I hit OK and it sends it to the user patch. Then I hit write again but it just says the same thing over again. So the patch shows up on my GT but once I leave that patch and come back to it the old patch is there again.?????????? Doug

    ReplyDelete
  38. OK.NOW I GOT IT Glenn. The reason it did not save to the GT-10 was due me watching and listening to closely to what you said on the instruction video. I don't think you caught what you said when loading the patches. In the video you say to "Click TEMPORARY WRITE while your arrow cursor moves next to the download on the librarian, Then you say "and if you like the patch, hit TEMPORARY WRITE again" while the cursor moves again to the librarian. What I think you meant was HIT TEMPORARY WRITE, when it shows up on the GT-10 then hit WRITE TWICE on the GT-10 itself. Then that saves the patch. Oh well, we got there any way. Your video was a great help Thanks a lot Glenn for the time and the tutoring videos you put out. I will be glad to help any one through this GT-10 stuff. My E-mail is up on the other post.Blessings upon you and your household.

  39. MUCH MUCH BETTER. NICE TONES. ADDING THE A&B channels together give it that kick in the butt. Thanks again TWO N GLENN... Doug

  40. hey Doug, glad you got it going and sorry for the confusion. Thanks for the blessings. :-)

  41. Got to thinking there Glenn after watching another You tube video of some one showing how to use the the GT-10 for recording. He made mention of a back up CD in case there is an OH crap situation and you loose your sounds.Do you know or do know of any one else showing how to do that because that guy never got around to explaining that part of it.Danka..... Was gonna get ready to use my Ableton live 7 for some recording.

    ReplyDelete
  42. HMM, never heard of the back-up CD for the GT-10. If you want to back-up your sounds you can use the Librarian software.

    ReplyDelete
  43. Yep, Found the way to back them up on the librarian and made a copy. Now I gotta figure out this Ableton I have had for A year and not used. I will have lost my callouses by the time I get it going. Once saved on librarian you can store the saved document onto a CD just in case your PC crashes.

    ReplyDelete
  44. hi glenn, I am having problem downloading your patches into my GT-10. Do you use both USB & MIDI devices or only USB alone to load patches? M using window-7, connected my USB but failed to load your patches into my GT-10. Hope to get some advises from you.

    Jynn

    ReplyDelete
  45. Jynn, I only use USB. Make sure in the GT-10 system settings that the USB is set to "Enable" and "advanced"

    ReplyDelete
  46. Yeah, got it! Have been weeks I tried to figure out but in vain.. and finally!
    This really helps!
    Thx alot Glenn!

  47. Hi Glenn,

I enjoyed your You Tube channel and stuff/tips/tricks you put out about GT-10. You have some great tips there.

I'd like to ask you for one more if you don't mind. In one of your videos you mentioned how you can set up different sounds for channels A and B (solo and/or rhythm). I tried to accomplish this, but when ever I try to set separate sounds for A/B channels they don't save like that (I have either A or B selected before I execute write).

This is example of what I'm trying to accomplish on on my user patch.

    - select channel A
    - add (have selected) compressor, delay, reverb
    - write these effects selection as channel A

    -selects channel B
    - add (have selected) compressor, OD, chorus,
    - write these effects selection as channel B

Now, I'd like to see these selected effects switch when I chose channel A or B.

How ever I try to write these selection in GT-10, nothing happens when I switch A and B channels. There is something that I'm missing here, and it's driving me nuts.

I'd really appreciate any tips or guidance on how to accomplish this–I thought very easy–task.

    Thx.

    E

  48. E, It sounds like your on a patch that is set to Dual Mono Preamps. Press the Preamp button and scroll all the way to the left page. Change the Ch. Mode to "single". Now you have seperate A & B amps. The you can go into the effect chain and move the effects to side A or B. Once that is done you can use one of your CTL switches to switch from amp A & B. You do this with the assigns menu in the Master Pedal/FX section. Watch my video on assigns if you need help with that.

    ReplyDelete
  49. Thanks a lot Glenn. I'm off to try it out right now.

    E

    ReplyDelete
  50. Hi Glenn,

I tried to set this up, but still can't make it work. I tried to set up channel mode to "single" than turned off all the effects, and moved OD/DS in the eff. chain to channel B. I tried to write this in my user patch, but it's still not doing anything when I switch form channel A to channel B.

Do you maybe know by any chance is there any resource online that shows how to create a patch form scratch-to have channel A for clean rhythm, and channel B with OD/DS for lead?

This is really getting frustrating. hahaha

    Thanks again.

    E

    ReplyDelete
  51. E, try finding a factory patch that has the A/B already set-up and change the settings and save it and see if that will work.

    ReplyDelete
  52. Hi Glenn. I'll try to do that. Should I do the write for each channel?

    Thx.
    E

    ReplyDelete
  53. Hi Glenn,

I just want to give you a quick update–I was able to separate effects for channel A and B by following your tips all over again. What happened was that effects I moved to to A or B in parallel chain wasn't active, and that's why it wasn't doing anything when I switched from one channel to another.

    Thanks again for your help.

  56. Glenn,

I just stumbled onto your site, what an awsome blog! I have a question. I have a Boss GT-10 and a Framus Ruby Riot 2 tube amp (PRS Guitars). I cant seem to get that boutique tube amp sound using the GT-10. What settings do you use going through a tube amp, on the amp, with the GT-10? I have been running the amp on the clean channel and not using the overdrive channel at all. I play at our church and our system dosen't allow me to mike into the PA, so I have to crank it up to get past the drums. In my office at home on low volume it sounds great, but as soon as I open it up in the open full band environment, it suffers. Help please!!!

    ReplyDelete
  57. Try downloading my patches and using my "AMP"ONLY" patches. You can find them on the side bar here.

    ReplyDelete
  58. Hi Glenn,

I want to record direct my amp + gt-10 using 4cm. What is the your best setup for this direct record?
Which patch is good for this setup?
Do I need DI box and additional souncard?
I use gt-10 only for time base effect, compression, and for clean solid amp.

    ReplyDelete
  59. If you are using the 4CM you probably should use a Microphone to mic your amp or your amp may have a recording out connection. You could record direct from the GT-10 using the USB but you won't get the sound of your amp, only the effects in the GT-10.

  60. Hye Glenn..I'm Khairul 18 years old from Malaysia (Asian Country)

I'm glad if you read & reply my comment..I has my own GT-10 that i was bought last week..I was expert about GT-10 and I was used all your perfect patches that as your provided..there are nothing problem with your patches..that's all perfect..thank you..

But..I want to ask something about GT-10:

    1. Most important one- Is there any effect or trick in GT-10 to transpose the chord our playing like keyboard? actually i think that the Master BPM/Key is to transpose the chord but it isn't..what is the function of the BPM and Key? I don't see any different in my sound when switching them..help me..

    2. Can we hear both Phone & L/MONO when the both outputs being used? I never try that.

    3. Could you find Carlos Santana sound patch please?

    4. What are the different of the sound if we use Single Coil or Humbucker pickup in EZ tone?

    5. What are the different between NS1 and NS2? (NS= Noise Suppressor)

    6. Can the patches from Line 6 Pod XT/X3 Live, GT-8 or GT-6 match into GT-10?

    7. Last question is could you said what is the disadvantages of GT-10 as your opinion?

    Thankz for your cooperation.
    (Sorry for broken English)

  61. Hi Glenn,

Just downloaded your bundle. Sounds awesome -- Thank you!!.

I want to play direct to PA. How do I tell your "Direct" patch from "Amp Only"? I have set the output setting to Line/Phones @ +4dB on the GT-10.

I also notice you have multiple patches with the same name that sound slightly different, are they for different output equipment or different songs? Example : Plexi Lead

    Thanks
    George

    ReplyDelete
  62. Hey George, patches 01-1 thru 05-4 are for use with an amp. Set your output setting on the GT-10 to Stack/Return. My direct patches are from 10-1 thru 24-5. Set your output setting on the GT-10 to Line/phones.

    Cheers,

    Glenn

  63. Hi Glenn,

Have you attempted a Dr. Z [direct] patch for GT-10? I like the way your L6-HD x00 Dr. Z mp3 sample sounds. A patch or any tips on recreating this patch on GT-10 is greatly appreciated. BTW, I don't own the HD series to copy some of the parameters (:-

    Thanks
    George

    ReplyDelete
  64. George, unfortunately that sound cannot be created using the Boss GT-10.

    ReplyDelete
  65. Glenn, I wanted to let you know that I played through the PA using the Plexi crunch and lead patches. I was very concerned that the levels would significantly alter the tonal quality. They sounded great. I am going to look through the patches and learn some of the foundational elements of your tone and create some of my own.

I sincerely appreciate you making your experience and know-how available to fellow musicians; Most people wouldn't -- you've got a big heart, indeed! Thank you!!
