my name is dennis and I´ve been playing guitar for 25 years now and still play in a hardrock band.
First of all I want to tell you that your music is really beautiful and inspiring. I like your style very much and I´ve been watching all your vids. Your instructional videos also have been very helpful for me. I had a Line 6 X3 Live and never could get a good sound in my band. The problems were the frequencies between the bass guitar and my sound. Then I found your X 3 Live video where you programmed a whole bank with clean, crunch. lead and rhythm. From then on I had a brilliant sound and in live situations as well as in rehearsals the bass and the electric guitar had lie different bandwith of frequencies so that you could hear everything very clearly and there wasnt any sound "chaos".
Now I have the HD 500 and there they are again: my sound problems. I just cant find the right eq settings so that I´m not in "war with the bass player" . Especially your eq trick for the x3 live I couldn´t use on the hd 500 (I´m not very talented in these things).
It would be so helpful for me and I think also for a lot of players out there if you could make a video where you program an entire bank (without 2 tone sounds and effects, just the sound base) that works in a rock band. I tried to copy the sounds of the x 3 live video but it just does´nt work out. Also the sounds of your hd 500 video don´t work in my frequency problem.
Another question: I play the hd 500 into an Engl Poweramp and then into two 4x12 Marshall cabinets. Would you use the pre amp sounds? They don´t sound good I think.
Hi Dennis, If you are going into a tube amplifier you should change the output setting of the HD 500. If you hold down the "VIEW" button for a few seconds you will get to the system settings. There you can change the output setting. I would try combo amp. Then you have additional EQ settings there you can adjust.
Hello Mr. Glenn im going to sell my Boss GT10 to get the HD500 do you recommend this move ? and i also heard about a fizz problem with the HD500 i dont know what the forums mean by fizziness i guess its a hiss or thin tone i dont know have you suffered any similar issues ? Thank You, Best Regards,
Hi Glenn. What kind of tips and tricks do you recomend to get the best when plug direct to PA. I have some problems cause when I try to create a clean patch with the Variax, the sound seems very sterile
My name is Charlie and I´ve been playing guitar for 1 year now.
First, I want to say that your music is really awesome, very beautiful and inspiring to a beginner like myself. I like your style and have watched all your vids. Your instructional videos have been very helpful to me. The big question I have is what to purchase, I am disabled and on a fixed income, so I need to be right the first time I purchase. I am torn between Line 6 HD500X and the Boss GT100...Any advice on which way to go.
Then any delay (for example) is then going to get distorted by the preamp in your amp. Maybe that's the sound you want, but generally you want delayed distortion, not distorted delay.
So, the 4CMmethod is:
Cable 1: Guitar output > Boss or Line6 device Input Cable 2: Boss or Line6 device effect loop send > amp input Cable 3: Amp effect loop send > Boss or Line6 device effect loop return Cable 4: Boss or Line6 device output > amp effect loop return
This gives you a proper signal path:
Guitar > Boss or Line6 device > amp preamp > Boss or Line6 device > amp power amp
The send receive in your Boss or Line6 device effects path should be AFTER your comp/distortion/amp sims and BEFORE your chorous/delay/reverb effects.
Note that you can still put external pedals in the right places - i.e. real wah pedal before the Boss or Line6 device input or a distortion stomp box before the amp input and other effects processors in the loop before/after the Boss or Line6 device.

ReplyDeleteWell that's a tuff one. Try adding a little chorus, reverb and EQ to the sound. That might help.
