4 Cable Method
With the 4CM method, you are connecting things as you would with a normal effects chain. Normal chain would be something like:
Guitar > Wah/volume/distortion stomp boxes, etc > preamp > choruses, delays, reverb, etc > power amp > speaker/cabinets
If you use a 2 cable method like this:
Guitar > Boss or Line6 device > Amp input
Then any delay (for example) is then going to get distorted by the preamp in your amp. Maybe that's the sound you want, but generally you want delayed distortion, not distorted delay.
So, the 4CM method is:
Cable 1: Guitar output > Boss or Line6 device Input
Cable 2: Boss or Line6 device effect loop send > amp input
Cable 3: Amp effect loop send > Boss or Line6 device effect loop return
Cable 4: Boss or Line6 device output > amp effect loop return
This gives you a proper signal path:
Guitar > Boss or Line6 device > amp preamp > Boss or Line6 device > amp power amp
The send receive in your Boss or Line6 device effects path should be AFTER your comp/distortion/amp sims and BEFORE your chorous/delay/reverb effects.
Note that you can still put external pedals in the right places - i.e. real wah pedal before the Boss or Line6 device input or a distortion stomp box before the amp input and other effects processors in the loop before/after the Boss or Line6 device.

Hi Glenn! I can´t find you e-mail in your site, I watched your videos and they´re helping me a lot! I bought a GT-10 and I´m trying to adjust some tones. I´ve downloaded your patches and they sound amazing... Can you help me modeling some Pink floyd patches? I´m newbie in guitar sounds, now with the GT-10 I´m learnig how to increase my guitar sounds... In your songs you record the drums or make it with a software? How can I contact you? ReplyDeletehey man i download your path but i cant put it in my gt-10 memory to use it like a user patch, i think its becouse i can only download it ad a .mid archive and not a .gxg archive so wath can i do to put it in my gt10 memory?

ReplyDeleteHola amigo soy Daniel de Ecuador, te felicito tu blog es de mucha ayuda para nosotros los músicos, tengo una GT10 y a su vez un amplificador Marshall AVT 150FX, cuál es la configuración de salida PERFECTA (out)para obtener un excelente sonido,ya que la música que toco es Metallica, Judas Priest, Megadeth y similares. La he conectado pero no logro el sonido ideal. Gracias y Saludos.
ReplyDeleteSaludo Dainiel, Usted debe tratar de cargar mis sonidos en ti GT-10. Tengo sonidos hechos especialmente para los amplificadores. Ir a mi parche Zona de descarga para encontrarlos y luego ver mi vídeo sobre cómo cargar los sonidos en su propia GT-10

ReplyDeleteque tal glenn necesito tu ayuda mira tengo un amplificador crate gtx65 quiero sacarle el mejor sonido o eficiencia en mi gt 10 como puedo hacerlo, no consigo el sonido que quiero : toco bandas como opeth y dream theater

tengo dos guitarras una ibanez prestige rg1527 y una bcrich wartribe con pickups activos, me he bajado tus patchs pero las distorciones me suenan muy opacas. no se si me serviria hacer el 4 cable method aunq no se si es posible o si sea necesario o estoy haciendo algo mal en la gt 10( la conecto al ampli en clean) seria de gran valor tu ayuda gracias de antemano!
Sí usted debe intentar el método 4 del cable si tu amplificador tiene un bucle de efectos. Tengo una descripción que figura en mi blog de los 4cm.
