New Patch download Area

Hey guys, it's been a while since I posted I know. I've been real busy making videos and playing & things like that. Anyway, I have a new Patch Download Area web page. If you look to the right panel under links you will see it. It not only has my best individual patches from all my Youtube vids but also my entire bundle from my GT-10, X3-Live & XT-Live. I even did some audio samples so you can hear what each patch sounds like before you download it. There are detailed instructions on importing the patches into your Boss or Line6 units. I just put the page up so if any of you have any problems with it please let me know so i can sort them out.

Which is better Line6 or Boss??

I get asked that question alot. Honestly I can't say one is better than the other. They both have their strengths & weaknesses. It comes down to what type of music you are playing and also how much control you want over your sound. I can say that the GT-10 is highly customizable and it offers way more settings than the X3. To some people that is a turn off because they don't want to get into deep editing of their tone. They just want to plug their guitar in and sound good right off the bat. The sad thing is the stock sounds that come from the factory in these modelers (both the Line6 & Boss) are not very good so most of us like to be able to change the settings to suit our needs. In the end it is you who must decide which is best for you because what is best for me may not be the best for someone else.

Never believe that something is what it is just because someone says so. One must find the truth for themselves. Only then will you know what is the best!!

Loading my GT-10 tones into your own GT-10

To load my GT-10 tones into your own GT-10 you must first download & install the BOSS GT-10 USB Driver & the GT-10 Librarian software located here:

Once you have done that you can download my GT-10 patches from my links. The file you download there will be a .zip file:

YOU MUST UNZIP THE ZIP FILE, (i repeat) YOU MUST UNZIP THE ZIP FILE,
inside you will find my GT-10 patches:
GlennDeLaune_Bundle_4-12-09.mid

Now with your GT-10 connected to your computer & turned on, open the Librarian software and go to File>Import SMF...>"my .mid file". This will load the patches into the Librarian. My patches start at U10-1 so if your window is not maximized you will not see them. Maximize the window or scroll down until you see U10-1. My patches go from U10-1 to U24-4.

Once the patches are in the Librarian, go to your GT-10 and select a patch you would like to over-write. Then in the Librarian hit the "Temporary Write" button next to the patch you want to audition, this will temporarily load that patch into your GT-10. If you like it and want to keep it hit the "Write" button again and this will permanently install the patch to your GT-10.

What type of amp to use with your GT-10 or X3-live

Lots of people have trouble getting a good sound with their GT-10 or X3-Live with a traditional amplifier. This is because traditional amplifiers color the sound of MFX units and it takes lots of tweaking to get a good sound. I use a Traynor K-4 which is a keyboard amp. It's 350 watts, stereo. It has XLR outs so I connect my GT-10 to the main inputs on the front of the amp in stereo and I go out of the XLR's into the mixing board/PA. So I have the amp sound on stage but the PA is getting a direct signal. This is the way to go for me. I get my stage sound from the amp and the PA gets a clean direct signal. If the Traynor K-4 is a bit pricey they have smaller wattage amps in the 300 to 500$ range and are very good. These keyboard amps like the Traynor are FRFR amps meaning Full Range Flat Response so they won't color your sound like a traditional amplifier would. There are also powered PA speakers that can be used with these MFX units that also work well.

I'll start by saying that I use Line6 & Boss gear. I have the Line6 POD 2.0, XT-Live, X3-Live, Variax models 700Trem and the 600 model. I also own the Boss GT-10, Roland GR-33, and a Roland VG-88. I can say that the sounds in the GT-10 are way more advanced than the VG-88. I use all of this equipment in my studio where I record my music. I have several self-produced albums and I also do composition for film and television. I have been playing professionally for 31 years.
